So Far
I'm back! It's definitely been a while since I last posted a blog on my website, but boy do I have some updates. My last blog highlighted my future goals and visions that I pictured and manifested into words. Now that I think back and reread what expectations I had set for myself, I see that it truly was pivotal in my career journey. Not just professionally, but a mental motivation I needed.
Now it being almost a year later, I'm so proud to say that I've hit my first goal that I set for myself, getting an offer from Dell Technologies as a Global Marketing Intern! Let's just say it was not an easy journey at all.. I had my ups and downs, my rejections, my moments of doubt. But it truly was all worth it and again, I live by the saying everything happens for a reason. So I believe everything I've worked for has led up to this moment. My best friend, Lam, who I've gone through college with from the start has been with me every step of the way. As much as people can support and cheer me on, it's rare to have someone going through the same chapter in their life truly understanding the struggle: going to cafes every week to apply, calling each other after every interview to debrief, participating in the Dell program together, and even sending each other applications. She truly was a factor in keeping my sanity but also pushing me to reach for the stars- together. So much that we got internships in Austin together!! She'll be working from another company but we are only minutes away from each other and it's crazy how I'm excelling with her within my career, but I'm also going to explore Austin with her every chance I get. Sorry, a little rant but definitely something to note for this blogs update.
Another big news! Lam and I decided to mentor pair together for ABSA in the family of Calhoun! Going into ABSA, I was undecided and meeting my first mentor, Steven, he really changed the way I saw myself in the future and made me see the potential I didn't know I had. When I doubted myself in OD: he instilled confidence and belief in me. When I worried about the job market: he would go with me into career fairs and introduce me to connections he knew. When I needed a friend: he was always a call away not just as a mentor. Having had a great mentee group with Steven and later on a good friend of mine, Sahil, I came to realize the importance of mentors and how they can really make an impact on who we are. Therefore, I always knew I was going to mentor one day.. and when I got a text from our HOH, I knew the time was now. And who else to do it with besides Lammy poo. Anyways can't wait for that and what the semester brings!
Overall, this new era of my life, is nevertheless exciting but it's also gonna be scary. I'm gonna have to face a lot of fears and overcome internal battles that I need to stand up to. Whether it be public speaking (I'm still working on it) or the responsibility of a whole mentee group or even the hard classes I'm taking, I know this is the path to growth but it sure is scary.
Chapter of Experiences
I remember my last blog, I mentioned how I'm taking part of a lot of new things! Some being reading, dancing, or even scrapbooking. I lose hobbies fairly quickly.. but I've kept up with scrapbooking like no other. To be honest, I spend more time scrapbooking then studying.. I'm almost done with my first scrapbook and it's.. beautiful. I spent SO many nights and hours of creativity and brainstorming that I'm so proud. I look like an insane person every time I go on vacation taking business cards or saving my receipt, but hey. It's the hobby of scrapbooking what do you expect. ANYWAYS, I've also gotten into matcha. At first it tastes like grass, but the more I had it and the more sweetener that got put into it.. I couldn't get enough. UGH it's so good, thanks Lam for putting me on. Now getting into this new era, I'm trying a lot of new things and setting new goals for myself. I'm going to start making my own matcha, therefore spending less money at cafes. I'm going to work at my campus job and study very hard for each of classes. I'm going to save money for the future but also for me things. I'm going to prioritize sleep and time manage better. I will also make time for self-care- this is a big thing for me as I realized throughout college the importance of giving yourself time to recharge or even just doing what you love in the comfort of your room.. with a lit eucalyptus candle.. with a fresh matcha latte.. watching Modern Family.
Anyway, just felt like writing and updating my website on my current life and what's been happening. Thanks for reading and I cannot wait to update ya'll again!
